Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman was born on September 1, 1996, in, California to Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu Coleman. Right from when she was 6 years old, she appeared in a play for Black History Month. She even performed at the California Shakespeare Theater where her mother worked as the house manager. That worked to her advantage as Zendaya helped sell fundraising tickets and was, hence, inspired to pursue an acting career.

In 2010, Zendaya began her career by starring in the series ‘Shake It Up’, which aired 75 episodes over three seasons. She then worked on ‘Good Luck Charlie’. She went on to host the Disney Channel’s ‘Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off’ and voiced Fern in ‘Pixie Hollow Games’. The next year she starred in the movie ‘Frenemies’ by Disney and even released the album ‘Zendaya’ that landed #51 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The year 2017 was her big entry into the big players. Zendaya landed a role in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘The Greatest Showman’, which were big hits at the Box Office grossing $880.2 million and $435 million. Zendaya plays Michelle “MJ” Jones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’, which did better than the first movie, grossing $1.132 billion at the box office. She further landed a role as Rue Bennett on HBO’s ‘Euphoria’ and won a Primetime Emmy.

In 2021, Zendaya voiced Bunny in ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’. And of course, she’s starring in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ that premieres on December 17 this year. Tickets are out y’all. Go get some!

Philanthropy

Career-wise, Zendaya has pretty much done it all: from starring in top movies to making millions. She even inked a record deal, designed her own fashion line and started her Zendaya app. Whew!

Zendaya has always spoken out on behalf of others, whether it is raising awareness for a water crisis or the Black Lives Matter movement. She even marched on in Washington for women’s equality.

She’s even partnered with Verizon’s #WeNeedMore campaign to bring technology and hands-on learning experiences to underprivileged children. This is to expose students to STEM fields and build brighter futures for themselves — and the world.

She supports charities such as the American Heart Association, DonorsChoose.org, Toys for Tots, Donate My Dress and Friends for Change. Zendaya was appointed as spokesperson for UNICEF’s Trick-or-Treat campaign. She raised her voice in 2020 for the George Floyd protests as well.

Home sweet home

Zendaya paid $1.4 million for a home in California. In March 2020, she paid $4 million for a 5,000 square foot home in Encino, California.
