Shakira was accused of not paying taxes, over $15.7 million, on income earned between 2012 and 2014.

As part of the deal, she accepted the charges and a fine of half the amount owed, more than $8.7 million.

The singer cooperated with the investigation and took steps to regularize her tax situation.

This legal resolution allows the 46-year-old singer to avoid imprisonment.

However, the singer has to pay a fine of $500,000 to avoid a three-year prison sentence.

Reportedly, Shakira was ready to defend her innocence but decided to prioritize her career and kids.

Shakira, who recently won the Latin Pop Artist of the Year award, has a net worth of  $300 million.
