Take your pick and select the right gas card to get more out of your next gas station bill

Regular commuters and road-trippers know that gas bills can punch a hole in their budget. But if you are armed with the best gas card, it is possible to soften the blow by earning cash back or points to fund the next trip.

The trick to choosing a great gas credit card is picking the one that rewards you not just on gas station purchases, but also for other spendings. For heavy drivers though, getting generous rewards on gas can be key.

Let us take you through some of the best gas cards to earn more credit card rewards from your gas bills.

Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Credit Card

The Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card offers so much value at zero annual fee, and you even get an introductory APR period. You get to start with a great bonus offer and earn extra rewards on gas among other common spending categories. The card earns unlimited 3 points on every dollar spent at gas stations, as well as on travel, dining, phone subscription plans and popular streaming services. Other expenditures earn 1 point per dollar.

American Express Blue Cash Preferred Credit Card

The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express comes with a generous rewards structure, especially for those who spend a lot on gas, transit and groceries. There is no cap on gas rewards. The card earns 3% back on U.S. gas station purchases year-round and transit. Apart from that, it offers 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets, 6% cash back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions and 1% cash back on all other purchases. The only caveat is that the zero dollar annual fee is for the first year only, which jumps to $95 after that. Make sure that you earn enough rewards to outstrip that cost.

Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card

The Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card can get you generous cash backs by making gas your choice of category, other choices being online shopping, dining, travel, drugstores or home improvement. If you’re a Bank of America® customer and qualify for Preferred Rewards, this card becomes exceptional for use at the gas station. But mind the quarterly spending cap on the 3% and 2% rewards which can be complicated to manage and too low for larger households.

American Express Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card

Refreshed with new benefits, including higher rewards in some of the most popular spending categories, the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express is a strong contender. This card offers plenty of rewards on everyday purchases, including gas, without charging any annual fee. Its rewards rates and categories give the card excellent long-term value. There’s a great 0% intro APR period and a strong welcome offer, among other benefits. The card earns 3% cash back on up to $6,000 spent per year in each of three categories: gas stations, supermarkets and online retail purchases. Other spending earns 1% cash back.

U.S. Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card

The U.S. Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card offers excellent rewards not just on gas, but general travel expenses too. You can earn 4x points on both gas and travel expenses, which is one of the richest rates in those categories. In addition, there’s a waiver on the annual fee in the first year and a generous sign-up bonus. The card’s other bonus rewards are decent, but not extraordinary.

So take your pick and select the right gas card to get more out of your next gas station bill.
